The 1979 Cricket World Cup, also known as Prudential Cup, was the second edition of the limited overs World Cup. It was held in England and June 9 to June 23, 19. Was played till 9th. The match was 60 overs per over in the second edition of the World Cup, as was done in the first World Cup. The 1979 World Cup was held in six venues - Birmingham, Nottingham, Lord's Cricket Ground, Leeds, The Oval and Manchester. There were 15 matches in the tournament, including semi-finals and finals.

Participant Team and Format: A total of eight teams participated in the 1979 World Cup. These eight teams were divided into two groups of four teams. England, Pakistan, Australia and Canada formed Group A, while Group B included West Indies, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and India. After group-stage matches, two teams of each group made the semifinals.


Semi-finalist: Group A, England and Pakistan qualified for the semi-finals, while Group B West Indies and New Zealand made it to the last four. In the semi-finals, England qualified for the final by defeating New Zealand by 9 runs and West Indies by 43 runs.

Winners: In the final at the Lord's Cricket Ground, West Indies beat England by winning the Prudential 1979 Cricket World Cup trophy. England won the toss and were elected to the first field. The West Indies scored a score of 286/9, while Sir Viv Richards scored 138 and overturned England's bowling attack.

West Indies's Gordon Greenidge emerged as the highest run scorer in the tournament and scored 253 runs in four matches. England's Gary Gilmour was the highest wicket taker with 10 wickets in five matches.
