8 Chrome and Firefox Extensions Stolen User Data, Instantly Uninstall Among the most popular internet browsers, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox install extensions as per their requirement, which make their work easier. Now a cyber security researcher Sam Jiddali has detected a major data leak, which is due to 8 Chrome and Firefox Extensions. These add-on extensions stole 45 large companies and data of more than 40 million users and leaked it to fee-based service 'Narco Analytics'.
Jiddali and his team named these 8 chrome and firefox extensions responsible for leaking data as 'DataSpii'. In addition to browsing data and URLs, they collect and distribute data from millions of users and a large number of companies such as Apple, Walmart, Amjon, Skype and SpaceX. Such data collection is not authorized by the browser and it also includes sensitized information such as medical records and credit card information.
Leakage Required and Sensitive Data
DataSpii gathers information on income tax returns, GPS location, cloud services and data, file attachments and online shopping history. According to Jiddali's report, corporate data collected by browser extensions is even more sensitive. This data includes employees' real time activity, the structure of the private LAN network, hyperlinks embedded on any LAN website, page content, API keys, proprietary source code and firewall access codes.
These browser extensions are responsible
Companies lost to DataSpii are affiliated with many Fortune 500 companies. While chrome and firefox users have had a major impact on this, some chromium-based browsers such as Opera have also been affected. By the way, these extensions have been removed or disabled from Google's browser, and if any of these are visible in your browser, uninstall it immediately. These extensions are not available for download now.
