Epic acquires Rocket League studio, bringing game to Epic’s store this year

In a surprise move today, Epic Games announced it has "signed a definitive agreement" to acquire San Diego-based Psyonix and its 132 employees, who make the hit car-based soccer game Rocket League. As part of the deal, the PC version of Rocket League will be moving to the Epic Game Store "in late 2019," Epic announced.

As part of the deal, the PC version of the Rocket League will go to the epic game store at the end of 2019. "In the meantime, it will continue to be available for purchase on steam, after which it will continue to support Steam for all existing buyers." Psyonix says that he will continue to sell and support rocket leagues on other platforms including PS4, Xbox One and Switch.

"In the short run, nothing will change!" Psyonix writes with a declaration in a blog post. "We are still committed to providing Rocket League with continuous updates, which have new features, new content and new ways to play games, as long as you have us."

"For a long time, we expect to bring the rocket league to the Epic Games store and to take advantage of our new relationship to develop the game in ways we can not do on our own," post release is. "We believe that bringing rocket league to new viewers with more support is a win for everyone."

Psyonix also says that it sees the acquisition, which is due to the closure in May or June, because "there is a lot of [our potential reach and resources"] in the form of esport for this game.

"We have been working closely with Epic since the early days of the unreal tournament, and we have survived the tide as collaborators, so the combination of forces is understandable in many ways," Cyanix's founder and director of studio Dave Hejwood said in a statement. "What we can learn from each other and the ability to meet together, it really encourages us for the future."

Cyclonic Acquisition is the latest aggressive step for Epic, which is flowing with cash after Fortune's massive success. Since starting Epic Games store with 88 percent steam-beating revenue share for developers at the end of last year, the studio has to buy several high-profile exclusions for the forum and attract customers by giving free games every other week. Have to go about.

Founded in 2001, Psyonix worked behind the scenes on Unreal Engine Games, which included Gears of War, Mass Effect 3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Bulletstorm, Unreal Tour Tour III, and Unreal Tournament 2004. The breakout of the company was not a hit. Own name, however, became a standout release of the year until the 2015 rocket league. According to Syonix, this game reached 50 million unique players by September last year, and provided the most recent $ 1 million prize pool for export.
