The Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has developed technology and is expected to be launched in August. An officer of the Department of Telecommunications informed that technology is ready for C-DOT. After the Parliament session, the Department of Telecommunications will contact the Minister for the initiation of this system. It should be applied next month. The current session of the Parliament will last till July 26.
With the aim of reducing fake mobile phones and theft incidents in July 2017, the Department of Telecommunications had given C-DOT the task of developing the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR).
The government had allocated an amount of Rs 15 crores for setting up of CEIR. The CEIR system will block all types of services on theft or lost phones, even after removing the SIM card or changing the IMEI number.
