Twitter made it clear, accounts of global leaders are not completely above the rules
Micro-blogging site Twitter clarified its rules because some Democrat lawmakers say they want President Donald Trump to be removed from Twitter.
Twitter has said that world leaders are not completely exempt from its restrictions in which users threaten violence or promote terrorism on the website. The San Francisco company clarified its rules because some Democrat lawmakers say they want President Donald Trump to be removed from Twitter. Trump uses this platform for unabated dialogue.
Twitter says it will enforce its policies against any user when it comes to cases such as child sexual harassment, direct threats of violence to a person, or posting someone's personal information. This suggests that Trump's account is currently under no threat.
Through a blog post this week, Twitter announced an extension of its policies regarding tweets. Twitter said in June that tweets from global leaders who violate its rules will be warned if they are of public interest.
Twitter said on Tuesday that it would take action against any account, whether a world leader or someone who makes explicit and direct threats against a person, and it would also depend on the context. Twitter said, 'What is the context? There is no possibility of 'action' if any leader of the world directly communicates with a celebrity or comments on political and foreign policy issues.
The blog post stated, "Foreign policy related to economic or military issues is not a violation of Twitter rules in general." Trump, for example, threatened Iran on Twitter after which his critics appealed for his account to be removed. But this is not a violation based on Twitter's policy.
