The government plans to hold a "grand ceremony" on the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Commemorative coin and postage stamp will be issued on the occasion. The government said in a statement released on Friday that the October 2 event is part of several events organized on the occasion. There are also plans to unveil the bust of Gandhi in 54 countries on this occasion.
The statement said that the meeting of the Executive Committee was held here on Friday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad were present in the meeting.
