Known as "graders", they were employed through contracting firms including Globtech.
Many were told that according to the UK newspaper 'The Guardian' no work was available at the time they were sent home due to "technical errors".

A former contractor told the paper: "We are all locked up after the scandal, there is no protection against it. More than 300 at a time in Cork, without any redundancy, just a week's notice."
Last month, an Apple whistleblower revealed that "there are countless examples of recordings featuring private discussions between doctors and patients, business deals, seemingly criminal behavior, sexual encounters and so on".
