Design and Build Quality
Starting with the design, the Shore Shots X1 AIR has a familiar design as other wireless earbuds. They come in both carbon black and graphite gray colors. Each (earbud) weighs just 6.4 grams and is the case with a total weight of only 35 grams so that it easily slips into your jean pocket. Since earbuds are small, it is recommended to store them inside the case when they are not in use as they are easy to lose. Even though it is made of plastic, it looks good. Both earbuds have touch controls that allow you to play or pause music, move to the previous or next song, control the volume and also sound assistant.
The earbuds and case have LED lights. Even though it has a compact design, it fits your ears firmly and does not fall off easily during workouts or even while running. I have been using it for my runs without any issues. Since it comes with an IPX6 rating, it can withstand sweat and light rain.
Sound quality
Coming with audio quality, these earbuds offer fairly good audio quality with a good bass volume with 9mm drivers. These have SNR> 95dB, 16 ohms impedance and frequency response of 20Hz ~ 20KHz. The volume was also good and the bass was decent. Although the company says it has support for the high-quality AAC audio codec, it shows Subband coding (SBC) when paired with the phone. It is capable of listening to 320-bit MP3s at bit rates of up to 328 kbps. This is common in Bluetooth devices with Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). The difference between audio quality in SBC and aptX is minimal, but latency with SBC is typically over 100ms.
We did not encounter any latency issues during music or video playback most of the time, but it did distract a bit in crowded areas. The earbuds offer good noise isolation, and are not too tight for your ears. You can choose the right set of ear tips to fit your ears.
The headset has a small microphone which is decent in most cases, although it does not raise your voice clearly when you are in a crowded, noisy environment. This is common in most Bluetooth headsets because small microphones don't catch your voice clearly.
Connectivity, Duo and AI Assistant
The Bluetooth headset supports Bluetooth 5.0, so you can connect it to Android, iOS devices with MP3 players with Bluetooth. When you remove them from the case, it quickly attaches to your phone and the LED lights in the case turn blue. The left earphone automatically connects to the right earphone. After the left earphones are connected, on the right earphones you hear "pairing" and the LED indications glow in blue. All you need to do is pair the Shots X1 AIR from the Bluetooth menu on the phone to pair the headphones. You get a sound response when it enters coupling mode and when it connects successfully. It does not have multi-point support, so you cannot connect earbuds to two devices at once.
The headset does not have a companion app, but when you don't play any music you can launch Siri on iOS and Google Assistant on Android devices by pressing the right earbuds.
Battery life
With a 110mAh battery on the headset, the company promises 7 hours of battery life, and we managed to get around 6 hours of battery life on a single charge, which is good. When not in use, the headset automatically shuts down and does not have a power off button. If you have Android 8.1 or later Android phones, you can see the battery life of Bluetooth headset. It gives the audio signal to charge the headset every 5 seconds when the headset has 5 minutes of battery left.
The headset takes about 2 hours to charge from 0 to 100%, and you have to connect the case to a power bank or charger as it does not have a built-in battery. When you go outside, this can be a downside when you run outside, which is a compromise for compact design. The LED light in the case lights up in blue when it is charged and turns red when it is full.
The conclusion
Overall, the Shore Shots X1 AIR is a decent set of ultra compact Bluetooth true wireless earbuds at a starting price of Rs. 1999. It has a lightweight, compact design, provides a good audio experience and good battery life, if you can manage the lack of built-in battery in case. It will be available on Flipkart and gonoise.com, but it is currently out of stock.
