Friday 15 November is the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda. He was born in 1875 in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Born to the home of mother Sugna and father Karami, Birsa Munda received her early education from Sakla and then enrolled in a German missionary school. He converted to Christianity, but then left school. A major reason for this was that tribal cultures used to be made fun of. Birsa Munda was then joined by Swami Anand Pandey. He got introduced to Hinduism.

In the year 1895, some such incidents happened that people started considering Birsa Munda as an incarnation of God. People used to think that with the touch of Birsa, diseases are cured. Birsa Munda's influence on the people started increasing. A crowd started gathering in front of them. But Birsa denied superstitions and advised people to abstain from violence and drugs. His words also affected people. The situation was such that the number of Adivasis who accepted Christianity decreased greatly. Not only that, those who had become Christians started to return to their religion.

Birsa Munda opposed the tactics of the British against the tribals, their land grab. Raised voice against the British Indian Forest Act-1882. He also inspired people to raise their voice against exploitation. The British government was shocked. It was in 1895 that he was sent to prison for the first time and sentenced to two years. He was accused of instigating people. But Birsa said that he is promoting religion among the people. Birsa was later released by warning.

The movement against the British started. On 24 December 1899, people started setting fire to police stations with arrows. Bullets were fired from the front, but Birsa Munda and his companions were fighting with the arrow. A large number of deaths occurred. Birsa Munda was arrested again. But as a result, in the year 1900, violent rebellion was waged against the British. Birsa Munda and his companions plagued the British.

In January 1900, another struggle took place on the Dombari hill. Many women and children were killed in it. Birsa was addressing a public meeting there. Many people were arrested. On 3 March 1900 Birsa Munda was also arrested in Chakradharpur. Birsa Munda died in mysterious condition on 9 June 1990 in Ranchi jail. He was then 25 years old. Even today Birsa Munda is worshiped like a god in the tribal areas of Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal.
